Emotional reunion for childhood nanny

In 1962 Sarah and her brother Andrew had a nanny Valda for five years whilst their mother was ill and Valda proved to be their rock. What made her particularly special was that Andrew is autistic and she looked after him brilliantly, she also helped Sarah with her dyslexia and gave her a lifelong love of reading. Sarah wanted to get in touch with her and thank her for all she did for them.

Sarah had discovered that Valda had married in 1973 and used Tracesmart's marriage index to confirm her name. Using Peopletracer's electoral roll Sarah was able to find Valda living in Bigglewade.

Sarah and Valda are due to reunite in May where Sarah can finally thank her face-to-face for everything she did for her and her brother during their childhood.

The best of friends reunited!

John and Melvyn worked together from the age of 16 as telephone engineers and when they were in their late 20s left the company they worked for to pursue other careers. The pair sadly lost touch and hadn't been in contact for 45 years.

Wanting to trace his old friend, John used Peopletracer's electoral roll and found Melvyn living near Hull. Contact was immediately made and after meeting up the pair are the best of friends again.

Brother and Sister reunite after 46 years apart

Brother and sister, Michael and Dorothy, were separated when Michael was only six months old. Their mother left Michael with neighbours and took Dorothy with her to Yorkshire. Michael did not even know of her existence until 1962 when she contacted him by letter and they remained in contact for some time.

In 1966 Dorothy wrote to say that they were moving to Botswanna where her husband was starting a new job and contact was lost. Years later, Michael wanted to find his long lost sister and using Peopletracer's Electoral Roll, Dorothy was found to be back in England living in Hampshire.

Their reunion is planned for April - they have a lot to catch up on!

Old school friends reunite!

Christine wanted to reunite with her childhood friend whom she had grown up with all through their school days. The two friends lost touch when Christine moved away from the area but she really wanted to find her old friend and catch up on how their lives had been over the years.

On checking through Tracesmart's births, marriages and death records, Christine found that her friend had married. Using Peopletracer’s Electoral Roll information she was able to find her current address and send a letter.

On receiving her letter Christine's friend made immediate contact and was overjoyed at being contacted - the two plan to meet up in the near future!

Long lost cousins reunite after 50 years

Elaine* had spent a long time finding out what happened to her father Tommy* who she last saw in 1959 when she was only 10 years' old. Sadly she found out her father had passed away, but her research had made her think about her childhood.

Elaine had lost contact with her two cousins who she had spent a lot of time with as a child and wanted to try and find them. She only knew their christian names but fortunately her father's death certificate showed his sister, Mary*, was the informant and gave her surname.

Using the information available a GRO Birth Index search was carried out to confirm the names for Elaine's cousins. Once this had been confirmed a family search was performed using Peopletracer's Electoral Roll data and addresses were found for both Elaine's cousins.

Elaine is now in touch with one of her cousins after 50 years and can now begin to find more information about her late father's life.

Merchant Navy shipmates reunite after 40 years!

Tom* had been in the Merchant Navy from 1969 to 1973 and was keen to find two of his old shipmates.

Both of Tom's shipmates originally came from Liverpool and knowing their dates of birth and a rough idea of their surnames a GRO Birth Index search was carried out to try and confirm their details.

Once their details had been confirmed a search was performed using Peopletracer's Electoral Roll data and one of the shipmates, Chris*, was located and contacted.

Tom and Chris are going to be meeting up in the new year, no doubt to share stories from their days in the Navy!

At Peopletracer we're pleased to integrate and make available the first tranche of the 2012 Electoral Roll. The information offers the largest and most accurate summary of the UK population, and ensures our customers benefit from the most current and authoritative residency data available in the country.

The information exists in two formats, the ‘full’ Electoral Roll which has qualified and conditional usage and the ‘edited’ Electoral Roll; the edited is a key dataset which we employ to help our customers search for long lost family members and friends.

Established by leading tracing and genealogy specialists, Peopletracer provides an online people search facility to help customers trace family and friends and the Electoral Roll is fundamental to the likely success of a people search.

Paul Weathersby, Peopletracer's Technical Director, commented on the latest data to be uploaded, "Every year we strive to be the first to utilise the newly released Electoral Roll data. Our customers need to be able to search the best information available and the more current the information, the better it is to accomplish a trace for a family member or friend.”

Over recent years the trend has seen the edited Electoral Roll diminish as opt-out rates increased. However, last year the opt-out decreased for the first time, falling 1% to 45% when compared with the preceding year. Absent data is generally bridged by the integration of other publicly available data.

Data is endlessly updated to ensure our system is able to scan the most relevant and productive information available. We will shortly complete uploading the new 2012 Electoral Roll and to ensure it remains up-to-date, it will also utilise the Rolling Register, a monthly update of approximately 250,000 records which amends Electoral Roll data to reflect changes in people's personal circumstances.
